What Is Arcsin?

Arcsin is the inverse sine function. If sin(x) = y, then arcsin(y) returns the principal angle x. For real numbers, the input must be between -1 and 1, and the principal output is between -π/2 and π/2 radians, or -90° and 90°.

Because the sine of 30 degrees is 0.5, the inverse sine of 0.5 is 30 degrees, which is π/6 radians.

Arcsin calculates the principal angle whose sine equals the input value. It is the inverse of the sine function.

What is the valid range for arcsin?

Is arcsin the same as 1/sin(x)?

No. arcsin(x), or sin⁻¹(x), is the inverse function of sine. It is not the reciprocal 1/sin(x), which is called cosecant.

Does JavaScript Math.asin() return degrees?

No. Math.asin() returns radians. Multiply the result by 180/π to convert it to degrees.
